Website Terms of Use

Effective · pastetense.app and decryptor.pastetense.app

The short version

These terms cover this website and the decryptor's website. Use the sites lawfully and don't try to break into them. The decryptor is free, runs only in your browser and can't recover a lost password or recovery key. The app itself is covered by its Licence Agreement, not by these terms.

Who we are

These websites are run by the developer of Paste Tense, an individual ("we", "us"). Contact: support@pastetense.app.

What these terms cover

These terms apply to pastetense.app and decryptor.pastetense.app (together, "the sites"). By using the sites, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the sites.

The Paste Tense app is covered by its own Licence Agreement. Our Promise and the Privacy Policy apply alongside both.

The decryptor's website

The decryptor is a single web page that reads encrypted Paste Tense history weeks and copied files inside your browser tab. It is free. It makes no network connections and stores nothing; the files you open and the password or recovery key you type never leave your device. The copy you can save from the app is the same page.

  • You may use it, and keep copies of it, to read your own Paste Tense files or files you have the right to read.
  • Use a genuine copy: the one at https://decryptor.pastetense.app/, one Paste Tense saved for you, or an unchanged copy of either. A copy someone else changed could behave differently, and we are not responsible for modified copies. Please don't publish modified copies under the Paste Tense name.
  • It can't recover what is lost. It needs your key file and your password or recovery key. Without them, nobody — including us — can open an encrypted history.

Acceptable use

Please use the sites lawfully and fairly. In particular, don't:

  • try to disrupt, overload or break into the sites, or the systems that host them;
  • probe or test them for weaknesses except as our security policy allows;
  • copy the sites to pass yourself off as Paste Tense or as us, or put them inside another site's frame;
  • use the decryptor to read files you have no right to read.

Content and names

The text, design and graphics of the sites, and the Paste Tense name and mark, belong to the developer of Paste Tense. You are welcome to link to any page and to quote short passages with a link back. Mac, macOS, App Store, iCloud, iPhone, iPad and Touch ID are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. Paste Tense is not made, sponsored or endorsed by Apple.

We describe Paste Tense as accurately as we can. If the sites and the app ever disagree, tell us and we will correct it; the app's Licence Agreement and Our Promise govern what you get.

The sites link to a few others, such as Apple and Cloudflare. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them; their own terms and privacy policies apply. Links are sent with no referrer.

Availability

We try to keep the sites available but can't guarantee they will always be online or error-free, and we may change or stop any part of them. The app never needs the sites to work, and a decryptor copy saved from the app works with no internet connection at all.

Disclaimer and liability

The sites, including the decryptor's website, are provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we give no warranties about them beyond those the law requires, and we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of them, including lost or damaged data, lost profits or indirect losses.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law — for example for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence — or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [Governing law: to be completed before launch], without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in its courts.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we will publish the new version here with a new effective date. The version published when you use the sites applies to that use.
