Our Promise
Pay once. Paste Tense will never become a subscription, and no future version will remove functionality you paid for.
What it means
We mean this as a firm commitment from the developer of Paste Tense to everyone who buys Paste Tense. It adds to your rights under the Licence Agreement and the law; it never takes from them.
- Pay once. Paste Tense costs US$11.99 in the United States, before any sales tax, paid once on the Mac App Store (prices elsewhere are set by the App Store and may include local taxes). There are no in-app purchases and no account.
- Never a subscription. The features you paid for will never be moved behind a recurring payment. If we ever offer something new that costs extra, it will never be a subscription, and nothing you already have will move behind it.
- Never fewer features. An update will not take away something Paste Tense could do when you bought it. Redesigning how a feature looks, or moving where its setting lives, is not removing it.
- No dependence on us. Paste Tense needs no server and no account, so the copy you have does not depend on us to keep working.
Honest limits
Some things are outside our control, and we would rather say so now:
- Apple, macOS and the law. If Apple, macOS or the law removes or restricts a capability Paste Tense depends on — for example how apps may read the clipboard, use the Keychain or Touch ID, or reach folders — we will say so plainly in the release notes and on this site, and keep everything else working.
- Safety first. If a feature ever turned out to put your history at risk, we would fix how it works rather than leave you exposed, and explain the change plainly.
- Newer macOS. A future version may need a newer version of macOS. We will never do anything to stop the version you have from working on the Mac it runs on.
Your files never depend on the app
Whatever happens to Paste Tense, your history stays readable:
- Unencrypted history is plain text files, one per week, that any text editor opens. Files you copied in Finder are kept as ordinary copies.
- Encrypted history opens in the offline decryptor with your key file and your password or recovery key. The app can save the decryptor as a single page that works with no internet connection on a Mac, Windows or Linux computer, and the same page is at decryptor.pastetense.app.
If Paste Tense ever stops
If we ever stop developing or selling Paste Tense, the copy on your Mac needs no server from us to keep running, and your files stay yours, in your folders, in plain text or in a format the free decryptor reads. We will keep the decryptor's website online for as long as we reasonably can — and you can save your own copy from the app at any time, so you never need to rely on it.
What the promise is not
It is not a promise of particular new features, of support for every future version of macOS, or of support on a particular timetable. It is a promise about what you already paid for: you keep it, you never pay for it again, and it is never turned into a subscription.
Changes
We may make this page clearer, but we will never change it to weaken the promise for a version you already have.
