Effective · Paste Tense for Mac, pastetense.app and decryptor.pastetense.app

The short version

We want everyone to be able to use Paste Tense and its websites. The app works with VoiceOver and the keyboard alone, and follows your Mac's Reduce Motion, Reduce Transparency, Increase Contrast and light or dark settings. If something gets in your way, write to support@pastetense.app and we will work on it.

The app

  • VoiceOver. Controls in the panel, menu and settings have spoken labels, and VoiceOver announces when recording starts, pauses or stops because of a problem.
  • Full keyboard control. A shortcut that works in any app (⌃⌥⌘V by default) shows or hides the panel, and you can turn on shortcuts for search, pausing, locking and skipping the next copy, or choose your own. In the panel, the arrow keys choose an item, Return copies it and Escape closes the panel.
  • Reduce Motion. The panel fades in and out instead of sliding.
  • Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast. The panel becomes solid instead of see-through glass.
  • Light and dark. The app follows your Mac's appearance.
  • Never colour alone. Every recording status is shown with a symbol and words as well as a colour.

The websites

  • Pages use plain HTML with real headings, lists and landmarks, a "Skip to content" link and a visible keyboard focus.
  • They follow your device's light or dark appearance, Reduce Motion, Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast settings.
  • Text uses your system's font and grows with your browser's zoom. Nothing on the site is timed, and every page reads fully without JavaScript.
  • The decryptor's website follows the same light, dark, motion and transparency settings.

We aim for the websites to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. They have not been independently audited.

Known limitations

  • In the app's Keyboard Shortcuts settings, keys are named by the US keyboard's key caps, whatever your keyboard layout.
  • In the panel, the selection moves with the keys; clicking a row does not select it.

Report a barrier

If anything in the app or on the websites is hard to use with your setup, email support@pastetense.app with "Accessibility" in the subject. Tell us what you were trying to do, what got in the way, and the assistive technology, macOS version or browser you use. A person reads every message. If you need the content of any of these pages in another format, such as plain text by email, just ask.
